What Happened
A sign outside of the office belonging to a Stanford Rabbi was targeted. Specifically, an 8.5 x 11 sized paper that designated the Jewish information table was defaced. The Star of David printed on the sign was ripped, torn in multiple places, and left in front of the office door.
This incident is being investigated as a hate crime under CA Penal Code section 11411(d). Vandalizing property, particularly as a means to intend to threaten and intimidate is contrary to Stanford’s values. This antisemetic incident is absolutely unacceptable. At this time the offending party(ies) is/are unknown.
What Is Being Done

A PIH Report was submitted by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) after this crime was reported.
The staff member is being provided the support they need.
Because this conduct is being investigated as a hate crime, it is not considered protected speech, and the person(s) who engaged in the conduct could be subject to legal or disciplinary action.
The Office for Religious and Spiritual Life (ORSL) and Hillel staff are aware of the incident and can serve as support systems for students.
The Faculty Staff Help Center staff are also aware of the incident and can be accessed as needed.
